Wolves Bite Back

The decision to remove grey wolves from the endangered species list was rejected by a US federal judge on Monday.

Grey wolves can no longer be killed in the states of Wisconson, Michigan and Minnesota. So far this year 45 wolves have been killed because they attack pets and livestock.

Environmental groups such as the Humane Society of the United States filed a lawsuit to protect the wolves. There were around 550 wolves in the region last winter.

On March 12, 2007, wolves were taken off the endangered species list to allow numbers to be controlled.
